SET1A Complex

SET1A Complex is a complex catalyzing the transcription-activating methylation of histone H3 lysine-4 and comprising a catalytic, SET domain-containing subunit, SET1A (SETD1A), plus the subunits of an activity-enhancing sub-complex—WDR5, RbBP5, Ash2L and DPY-30 (2 copies). In contrast to the H3K4-methylating activities of other MLL/SET1 family members that are more narrowly focused (e.g. MLL1 and MLL2 and the HOX genes), human SET1-containing complexes (SET1A and SET1B) appear to be responsible for widespread H3K4 trimethylation. Nevertheless, there is evidence that specific targeting of SET1A for inhibition might be a fruitful therapeutic approach to some diseases, including osteoarthritis and colon cancer.
